Questions and answers
About AutoImpact, TRACE, PRISM, IFRS 17, deployment and pricing.
How does a reporting period run in AutoImpact?
As a reporting cycle: data, transform and validate, assumptions and basis, model, and reporting. Each step is done, checked and reviewed by three different people, with notes and the files or runs it rests on. In a production cycle the steps go in order and evidence with blocking findings is refused. Nothing in the record is ever changed or deleted.
Do we need to write code to use AutoImpact?
No. The basis, method choices and validation rules are set in forms, data transformations and column mappings are set up in TRACE, and add-on items for the Lux GAAP valuation are written in plain language in PRISM. Every change is approved by a second person, and every figure shows its formula in plain language.
What is AutoImpact?
AutoImpact is actuarial software for life insurers. It takes policy-system extracts to a reconciled, signed-off model point file (TRACE), then values the business under Lux GAAP and IFRS 17 (PRISM), with every calculation rebuilt in an Excel reviewer workbook so it can be checked independently.
Does our data leave our network?
No. AutoImpact installs on a Windows PC or runs in a Linux container on your own servers. Names and addresses are removed on upload and policy numbers are replaced with keyed pseudonyms; no AI service is sent your data.
Which IFRS 17 measurement models does it cover?
The general measurement model (GMM) and the variable fee approach (VFA), with a cost-of-capital risk adjustment, the CSM roll-forward, reinsurance held, transition approaches and the disclosure reconciliations.
Does the CSM engine support both the VFA and the GMM?
Yes. Each portfolio is measured under the variable fee approach or the general measurement model, set in the IFRS 17 basis: typically the VFA for unit-linked and with-profits contracts and the GMM for annuities in payment.
How is the risk adjustment calculated?
By cost of capital: mortality, longevity, lapse (up, down and mass) and expense stresses are aggregated with a correlation matrix and run off with the outgo. The equivalent confidence level is estimated for disclosure.
Which disclosures does it produce?
The reconciliations of IFRS 17 paragraphs 100 and 101, new business (107), when the CSM is expected to be recognised (109), the risk adjustment confidence level (119), the insurance lines of profit or loss and OCI, and reinsurance held.
How is the opening CSM set at transition?
By the full retrospective, modified retrospective or fair value approach, group by group. The full retrospective approach needs the complete history of each group and is refused without it.
Can we check the CSM outside the software?
Yes. Each run writes a reviewer workbook that rebuilds the risk adjustment, the CSM roll-forward, the loss component and insurance revenue in Excel formulas beside the engine's figures.
Can we run the CSM on cash flows from Prophet or AXIS?
Yes. On the IFRS 17 page, Run on another model's cash flows takes one CSV, one row per group and year: group, year, premiums, claims, expenses, investment_components and coverage_units, with optional risk_adjustment, consideration and underlying_items columns. The cash flows are discounted on the IFRS 17 curve and go through the same CSM roll-forward, loss component, disclosures and reviewer workbook.
Which policy systems does TRACE read?
TRACE reads Lifeware-format month-end extracts out of the box, checked against layouts generated from the extract metadata workbook. Other systems are onboarded by profiling a sample file and mapping its fields.
Can we set up the data checks ourselves?
Yes. Validation rules are written in a form by the data team, with no code, and apply from the next run once a second person approves them. Interface layouts are imported from your metadata workbook.
Can we change column mappings and data transformations without a developer?
Yes. On the Data transformations page you add derived columns written in plain language, value maps and defaults for blanks. Each step applies at every build once a second person approves it, and each run records how many rows every step changed. On Onboard a block you save a column mapping for a new block, and choose it when you upload that block's policy extract.
Can it produce Prophet model point files?
Yes. A locked model point file can be exported to Excel and to Prophet model point files, so TRACE can sit in front of an existing actuarial model.
Is the licence a subscription?
No. The software is a one-off licence of £36,000. Support and maintenance is £2,000 a month.
What does support include?
Software updates and fixes, each release built and tested before it is published; help with runs, validation rules and the interface; changes to the basis and interface; a 4-hour response, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.
Will AutoImpact support the Solvency II review from 30 January 2027?
Yes, it is the first phase of the roadmap, targeted for Q1 2027: the risk margin at the 4.75% cost of capital with the lambda factor, the standard formula SCR it needs, and the new curve extrapolation and volatility adjustment.
Does AutoImpact calculate the Solvency II SCR today?
Not yet. Today it calculates the best estimate and the IFRS 17 risk adjustment's stresses. The standard formula life and market modules are in phase 1 of the roadmap.
How long does it take to get first results?
On the demo book, a few minutes from installation. On your own data, the same day once the extract and basis are to hand: a 15,000-policy book runs in about 15 seconds.
Does AutoImpact use AI on our data?
No. AutoImpact sends no data to any AI service. Any future AI use would be limited to metadata, off by default and approved by you.
How does AutoImpact sit with EIOPA's expectations on AI?
EIOPA's August 2025 opinion on AI governance asks insurers using AI for data governance, explainability and human oversight. AutoImpact runs no AI on your data: every calculation and check is a rule you can read as a sentence, with its version history, and a person approves every change. Your compliance function decides how any system is classified.
Who is AutoImpact for?
Valuation and actuarial data teams at life insurers and closed-book consolidators that need a governed data layer, an independent calculation and IFRS 17 or Lux GAAP results they can explain.
